Site Safety Training Card Requirements

Limited SST Card (30 Hours)

Must have at least one of the following to obtain this card:

Temporary SST Card

Card issued by an SST Provider to a person who demonstrates that they have successfully completed an OSHA 10 hour class and who is a new entrant to the construction or demolition work force.

Must have the following to obtain this card:

  • OSHA 10-Hour Class

Full SST Card (40 Hours)

Must have at least one of the following to obtain this card:

  • 1. OSHA 10 Hour Class with 30 Hours of Additional Training
    • OSHA 10-Hour Class and
    • 8-Hour Fall Prevention and
    • 8-Hour Chapter 33 (Site Safety Manager Refresher) and
    • 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User and
    • 2-Hour Drug and Alcohol Awareness and
    • Four hours of General Electives (view classes below) and
    • Four hours of Specialized Electives (view classes below)
  • 2. OSHA 30 Hour Class with 10 Hours of Additional Training:
    • OSHA 30-Hour Class and
    • 8-Hour Fall Prevention and
    • 2-Hour Drug and Alcohol Awareness
  • 3. 100 Hour Training Program Approved by the Department
    • At a minimum meets the coursework identified in item 1 or 2 above
    • Typically received as part of a Union Apprenticeship Program

Supervisor SST Card (62 Hours)

Must have all of the following to obtain this card:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Class and
  • 8-Hour Fall Prevention and
  • 8-Hour Chapter 33 (Site Safety Manager) and
  • 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User and
  • 2-Hour Site Safety Plan and
  • 2-Hour Tool Box Talks and
  • 2-Hour Pre-task Safety Meetings and
  • 2-Hour Drug and Alcohol Awareness and
  • Two hours of General Electives (choose two from below) and
  • Two hours of Specialized Electives (choose two from below)

  • 1-Hour Electrocution Prevention
  • 1-Hour Fire Protection and Prevention
  • 1-Hour First Aid and CPR
  • 1-Hour Handing Heavy Materials and Proper Lifting Techniques
  • 1-Hour Health and Safety Programs in Construction
  • 1-Hour Hoisting and Rigging
  • 1-Hour Materials Handling, Storage, Use, and Disposal
  • 1-Hour Protection from Sun Exposure
  • 1-Hour Repetitive Motion Injuries
  • 1-Hour Stairways and Ladders
  • 1-Hour Tools-Hand and Power

Specialized Electives

  • 1-Hour Asbestos/Lead Awareness
  • 1-Hour Confined Space Entry
  • 1-Hour Concrete and Masonry Construction
  • 1-Hour Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, and Conveyors
  • 1-Hour Demolition Safety
  • 1-Hour Ergonomics
  • 1-Hour Excavations
  • 1-Hour Flag Person
  • 1-Hour Job Hazard Analysis
  • 1-Hour Manlifts/Aerial Lifts/Scissor Lifts Safety

SST Card Expiration and Renewal

Full SST Card (worker)

Expires after five years and renewable upon applicants showing that they have completed eight training hours specified by the Department (see below) in the one-year period preceding submission of a renewal application.

  • Training required to renew the Full SST Card must include the 4-Hour Fall Prevention and the 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User

Supervisor SST Card

Expires after five years and renewable upon applicants showing that they have completed 16 training hours specified by the Department (see below) in the one-year period preceding submission of a renewal application.

  • Training required to renew the Supervisor SST Card must include the 8-Hour Fall Prevention, 4-Hour Supported Scaffold User, 2-hour tool box talks and 2-hour pre-task safety meetings

Temporary SST Card

Expires after six months during which time training must be completed to receive a Limited SST Card or SST Card


Limited SST Card

(Expires August 31st , 2020)

Limited SST Cards will expire on the above date and will no longer be available.
